West Pines Behavioral Hospital, located in Westminster, Colorado, is dedicated to offering comprehensive psychiatric treatment for adolescents ages 13-17 and adults age 18 and older who are in need of quality behavioral healthcare. We recognize that there is no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to treatment for mental health concerns, so we have crafted our programming to be individualized to meet each person’s unique needs.
When a patient first arrives at our Westminster, Colorado, hospital, our team of experienced professionals conducts a thorough assessment to determine which level of care will be most appropriate for them, taking into account factors such as the severity of their symptoms, the presence of any co-occurring conditions, whether they have received treatment before, and their social history. We use the results of this assessment to create a tailored treatment plan that meets their identified needs.
We believe that patients are most successful when they feel safe, respected, and truly cared for, and our commitment to providing individualized care reflects that philosophy. Ultimately, our goal is to empower adolescents and adults on their path to healing, helping them regain stability and improve their overall well-being.
Inpatient Psychiatric Admissions Criteria
The inpatient psychiatric admissions process is critical to making sure that adolescents and adults receive the appropriate level of care. By establishing clear guidelines, we aim to provide effective, compassionate care while prioritizing patient safety.
While everyone’s circumstances are different, and admissions are determined on a case-by-case basis, the criteria considered for admission to West Pines Behavioral Hospital include:
- The individual poses a threat to themselves or others and requires continuous monitoring.
- Symptoms of a mental health condition are severely impacting the person’s ability to maintain adequate nutrition and self-care.
- The individual has a significant disability in social, interpersonal, occupational, or educational functioning.
- The person has a neurocognitive impairment (such as dementia or traumatic brain injury) and is also suffering from psychiatric behavioral disturbances (including suicidal ideation, major depression, agitation, anxiety, or psychosis).
- The individual requires a complex diagnostic assessment and treatment that is not available in another setting or may be unsafe to receive on an outpatient basis.
- Attempts at receiving outpatient treatment have not been successful.
- The person lacks a strong support system.
Inpatient programming at our Westminster, Colorado, behavioral health hospital is available for adolescents ages 13-17 and adults age 18 and older.
Inpatient Detoxification Admissions Criteria
Inpatient detoxification can be a necessary first step on the recovery journey for individuals who have drugs or alcohol in their system when they arrive for treatment. We provide a supportive and structured environment where patients can safely navigate the withdrawal process, laying the foundation for continued healing and improved health.
The criteria for admission to the inpatient detox program include:
- The pattern and nature of drug and/or alcohol use indicate that imminent physical withdrawal requires 24-hour medical monitoring and intervention to lessen possible complications.
- Active withdrawal symptoms are evident and cannot be safely or effectively addressed outside of an inpatient setting. These symptoms may include tremors, unstable vital signs, excessive sweating, gastrointestinal disturbances, and confusion.
Detox services at West Pines Behavioral Hospital are available for adults age 18 and older.
Partial Hospitalization Program Admissions Criteria
Partial hospitalization programs (PHPs) offer a structured treatment option for individuals who need intensive support while maintaining a level of independence. We aim to provide an environment that fosters healing and helps patients prepare for the transition to a lower level of care.
Criteria for admission to our PHP can include the following:
- The individual demonstrates active, uncontrolled risk-taking behaviors or other severely distressing symptoms that significantly impair self-care, occupational or academic performance, and interpersonal relationships.
- Intensive care is necessary to prevent further deterioration that could require a higher level of treatment.
- The patient’s social support system actively encourages treatment.
- The individual needs a short period of intensive structure and support to build the social and cognitive skills necessary for transitioning to a lower level of care.
- The patient has been discharged from a higher level of care but still requires structured treatment.
- The patient is not at risk for self-harm or harm to others.
Adolescents ages 13-17 and adults age 18 and older can participate in the PHP at our hospital.
Intensive Outpatient Program Admissions Criteria
Intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) serve as a vital resource for individuals who are seeking structured support while balancing daily responsibilities. Our objective is to provide a flexible yet intensive therapeutic environment that promotes healing and offers skill-building activities so that patients are able to move to traditional outpatient therapy.
Those considered for the IOP at our Westminster, Colorado, hospital must meet some of or all the following criteria:
- The individual is suffering from symptoms that have caused impairment in social, occupational, or family functioning, necessitating intensive and structured intervention.
- The patient possesses adequate cognitive abilities to take responsibility for behavioral change and is capable of developing coping skills to manage their symptoms.
- The individual’s patterns of substance use are unlikely to improve with traditional outpatient treatment and community resources alone. However, they can maintain adequate functioning in their daily life.
- The patient demonstrates a desire to pursue treatment and work toward identified goals at the time of admission or shortly after beginning the program.
- The patient’s social network and significant other support their therapeutic process.
- The individual shows the motivation, social skills, and cognitive abilities to establish and maintain a healthy support system.
- The patient is not at risk for harming themselves or others.
The IOP at our behavioral health hospital is available for adolescents ages 13-17 and adults age 18 and older.
